Refreshing Hacks – Make Drinking Water Fun
Drinking enough water is essential to our health. However, drinking enough can be tiresome or boring. With these hacks, you can add some tasty infusions to your water and increase your intake of vitamins and minerals!
Water makes up approximately 60% of the human body and our blood contains 90% water. We need plenty of fluids to keep our cleansing systems up and running.
Bodily systems that depend on water include:
- Sweating: plays a key role in regulating our body temperature and blood pressure - along with spicy food.
- Urinating: which helps to flush out toxins
- Water supports a well-working digestion
- Water lubricates your joints
Water is also necessary for:
- Cell regeneration
- Saliva production
- Keeping our organs hydrated (esp. brain and kidneys)
- Water also helps us break down and absorbed valuable minerals and vitamins
Other benefits of drinking lots of water:
Water is excellent for good skin health. Dehydration can cause skin vulnerabilities and accelerate the ageing process.
Risks of Dehydration
Not drinking enough water can cause dehydration. Long-term dehydration can be dangerous. It can make you feel drained, fatigued and cause headaches. Sometimes we interpret thirst as hunger. Therefore, always drink water when you start feeling hungry, and see if the feeling goes away. Maybe you were just thirsty!
How much should I drink?
This depends on each individual. Height, weight and level of activity play key roles here. As a general rule of thumb, you should aim to drink about 1.5 litres of water each day. For people who exercise a lot, you should drink more.
Water, unsweetened teas or even water-containing fruits are a great way to make sure you’re staying hydrated. To prevent drinking from getting boring, we’ve compiled some hacks for you to make your drinking experience fun and tasty!
